Carioca, the plastic surgeon Edmar Fontoura celebrates 36 years of career surrounded by a stylish clientele in search of excellence. Apaixonated by the work, he strives to offer the very best in the glamorous world of fashion and beauty. This work-a-holic in the service of aesthetics confides “Never crossed my mind to choose a different profession”.
The mansion, built in the last century, stands out as an oasis in the landscape of buildings and buildings in the bustling district of Botafogo, in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro. At first glance, no one would say that within their domains happens a discreet and very successful revolution in the world of aesthetics. Young models, actresses, personalities of the columns of newspapers and magazines, elegant ladies and men without prejudice against vanity bump up the front desk in search of a common goal: to reimagine itself visually through the experienced hands of master carioca plastic surgery: the Dr. Edmar Fontoura.
25 years ago, that this is one of the most outstanding surgeons of Brazil, a member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery, there settled its “central beauty”. Fact is that the specialist carries veins talent inherited from a family of doctors. His father, Edmar Fontoura Lopes Júnior, was nothing less than the pioneer of vascular surgery in the country. In 1956, he founded the 1st Vascular Surgery Service of Social Security. His maternal great-grandfather, Professor Brandão Filho (now the name of the street in the trendy neighborhood of Leblon), known as Prince of Surgeons. Besides leaving many disciples worldwide, he became even more famous by winning improvements to the Holy House of Mercy after having operated the gangrenous appendix of the then President of the Republic, Washington Luís in 1931.
Not coincidentally, the address Botafogo became a national reference (and international) when it comes to processing faces and silhouettes. On the walls of the room surgeon, finely decorated, lie numerous diplomas, honors and certificates awarded throughout his years of practice. Upon entering the office, it is as if the patient they encountered there a universe apart, in which one breathes an atmosphere of trust. Just a glance to understand why so many smiles on the faces of patients who pass the door.
In truth, nothing leaves this carioca more accomplished than to see the changes that plastic surgery is able to deliver on people’s lives. Himself, as a teenager, at fifteen, had his nose operated. “Providing feelings similar to those that I myself experienced the patients who come to me is a great pleasure and my main goal, “said the expert, member of the Association of former students of Professor Ivo Pitanguy, among others.
Many years after leaving behind his training at Santa Casa da Misericordia, the renowned expert returned to where it all began. Today, he is responsible for the Plastic Surgery Ward 33 that institution. “It is a rewarding job and a pleasure to remember living with the master Pitanguy.”
According to Dr. Edmar Fontoura, one of the roles of every plastic surgeon is to collaborate with the competent work of other doctors and provide the people, services and information they need to make it safe and correct decisions. He gives as an example the increase in demand for plastic surgery after bariatric (the operation for reducing the stomach). “No further work and complement of a plastic surgeon, perhaps this feature used for the treatment of morbid obesity ever become viable, he says “In such cases plastic surgery not only improves the physical appearance of the patient, as he returns to the opportunity to rejoin without trauma or complex, in the very society they belong”.
Perfectionist by nature, Dr. Edmar Fontoura believe that plastic surgery is the communion between form and content. “Both are the result of technical professionalism and art,” he says, who is married to Katie Spolavofi entrepreneur, owner of a chain of stores in the city. The surgeon is also passionate about the technological advances. So he makes sure to use methods to date. Neither makes you want to step out of his beautiful mansion. To paraphrase Balzac: beauty is the signature of the master himself at work in which printed his soul. Dr. Edmar firm his own spirit as anyone.
